Guestbook for Peter Karl Oley Showing 1 - 5 of 113 entries.

It is fitting that I learned of Mr. Oley's passing from my friend and H.S. teammate, Byron Haynes.
I remember one time I missed track practice shortly before a championship meet. Mr Oley and Byron arranged for a special practice for me. Just the 3 of us worked out at the White Plains H.S. track so I could be ready for that meet. That's the kind of dedication Mr. Oley had for me.
Byron was-and still is- a good friend. Mr Oley was a great coach. His legacy will live forever in the hearts and memories of those atheletes he gave his life to.

I ran Cross Country for Coach Oley for two years and ran track for him for four years. I just want to say he was a great coach but even better man, and I was proud to run for him. He will be sorely missed.

Hi. I ran cross country and track for Mr. Oley from 1998 to 2001.

Three things that stand out in my mind about Coach Oley were his positivity, passion, and class.

As a coach and teacher, he brought out the best in people by positive motivation. I was not a superstar runner, but he always cheered and told me what I had to do to get better. Anyone that had interest and wanted to get better was welcome on the team. He would tell stories of past runners during the League Meet against Valhalla (or other rival teams) that stepped up and ran PRs to come back at the end to win. When I heard these stories, I wanted to strive to get better and continue the tradition and maybe be part of a future story he would tell to younger runners.

During my senior year of cross country, Coach Oley had an eye operation and had to miss some dual meets. I remember during one of those meets, Mrs. Oley came up to us with new Irvington Harriers shirts that Mr. Oley ordered. Later that week, Mr. Oley called me and talked about how he was proud of everyone and shared his thoughts about the season. He never stopped thinking about the team and everyone even when his health was not 100%.

Finally, one thing that I see now that I took for granted back then was his class. Mr. Oley was never arrogant or cocky or a bad sport to anyone or any opposing team. Even when we won our 80th straight spring track dual meet, there was never any bad sportsmanship or trash talking. Coach led by example and we all followed.

These are some of the many things I will remember about Mr. Oley. Thanks Coach. Hope you're doing well.

Mr Oley was my teacher in Dows Lane, several years later became Coach Oley. As a Sophmore in High School, I was unaware of the magnitude with the experience of the team bond and the sport that would follow. Graduating from Irvington High School, College and onto careers he became a mentor and good friend. He always took the time to listen and give wise feedback looking after the students and athletes as his extended family. He strengthened values and tradition that I will always remember with the warm and vibrant voice.
